Enable Insight, based on Interactive Group’s Remote Monitoring & Management solution (VUpt) combines historical, real-time and predictive analysis, aggregates data from multi-faceted mobility-based infrastructure to provide enhanced Service outcomes for the London Bus network (TFL)

Background

‍

The London Bus network is one of the largest and most comprehensive urban transport systems in the world. Over six million journeys are made on 8,600 London buses every day within an area of approximately 659sq. miles. London Bus is responsible for all bus services within the M25 London motorway, including route planning, service levels and quality, bus stations and stops, and other support services.

The existing radio network supporting the buses required a complete replacement following obsolescence of core infrastructure and expansion of bus and passenger services. London Bus needed a seamless transition to a new radio solution that would ensure their customers receive amore reliable and consistent bus service.

‍

The project introduced state-of-the-art Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) with comprehensive telecommunications. The broader goal is to offer passengers Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) at bus stops, on-board voice and signs, and SMS text messaging.

‍

Tait proposed a complete replacement of the six site network with a 10 site (VHF) 76 channel TaitNet trunked MPT 1327 network to support high quality voice and data applications. This involved 90 garages and208 dispatch workstations throughout the greater London region.

The TFL solution is built on the core TAIT EnableInsight solution and integrates multi-faceted infrastructures including data networks, Bus Computer Systems, and complex business critical KPI’s which underpin service delivery in TFL’s business.

The Future

‍

Transport for London has continued to evolve and develop their requirements which have culminated in teh enhancement of the bus data feed into EnableInsight. This has many potential performance and KPI-based enhancements which will evolve over time.
